A happy Easter weekend of music

Hooray the Easter holidays are here –  four days off means four days to visit Berkshire’s venues for some special musical Easter treats. Here’s a round-up of what you can go and see after stuffing your face with chocolate:

On Friday at Plug ‘n’ Play in Reading there won’t be many Easter bunnies about, but certainly five Fox Cubs.

The Reading/Newbury band (above) have played both the Reading and Glastonbury BBC Introducing stages, plus have bravely shunned their previously more poppy tunes for a darker sound.

Go down to Royal Windsor and you can enjoy some groove rock with The Velvet Hearts, who’ve been likened to Muse, Snow Patrol and The Killers, at the Old Ticket Hall.

On Saturday, Club Velocity is holding a raucous evening celebrating Reading’s music scene at Plug ‘n’ Play with a night called Camden Is Rubbish These Days.

On the egg-cellent (sorry) bill are Boydidgood, Jets Against Giants, Attention Thieves and Johnny Arrow and the Cheap Day Returns, with those MidiMidi boys on the DJ decks.

If you live round Arborfield way then hop down to The Bramshill Hunt to see Frankie The Fish.

Also on Saturday you can head down to The Red Lion pub for a Chivalry Is D**d night of great local bands.

If you’d like to add a Brazilian flavour to your weekend then the Rising Sun Arts Centre features Ife Tolentino, Chris Wells and Steve Pierce.

Or perhaps you want to jazz up your weekend with the Jamie Howell Trio at the Three Frogs in Wokingham.

Easter Sunday features a band that sounds like ‘Sigur Ros on a quirky pop binge’, namely A Genuine Freakshow from Reading, who are playing alongside Vessels and Toodar at the Oakford Social Club in Reading.

If you fancy getting mucky in the mosh pit then the Face Bar in Reading is hosting the Dirt Easter Festival on Sunday with This Is Colour, Broken Jaws, Mass Hysteria, When Memories Fade, Red Light Rescue, Chasing Tomorrow and In The Absence Of Light.

If dancing to old skool indie is more your bag then the legendary Fools Gold night at the After Dark is where you should be – though be warned, Fools Gold is traditionally always the nightclub’s busiest event of the year, so arrive early.

Bank Holiday Monday is quiet ... as far as I know the only venue with live music is The Retreat pub, which is indulging in some folk with The County Arms Exiles.

Bank Holiday monday will certainly not be quiet! There's a charity gig being held for HELP THE HOSPICES at Face Bar.

4 brilliant bands in STREETFIGHT SILENCE, GIMBLE, KRAKEN and headliners SECRET WEAPON. ALL money raised will go straight to Help the Hospices and all the bands are playing for free! =)

Doors open at 8 and it's £5 to enter.
