Yours, locally - The session with Linda Serck

By Linda Serck
December 18, 2008

BBC Introducing is all about supporting music that is ‘unsigned, undiscovered or under the radar’, and the Session Introducing’s live gig night in Reading does just that.

Last Wednesday at Bar Four in Friar Street we had a bit of a special do to give a bit of a flavour to those new to Reading’s music scene.

Opening band Infrasonic gained their slot on the bill after winning the demo panel on my show (if you’d like to enter, send me an MP3 to linda.serck@bbc.co.uk ), and performed an acoustic version of their set, complete with double bass!

Next up King Oliver are a relatively new duo who perform a marvellously distinctive set of songs that sound like they’re sung by a cross between Bryan Ferry and Lloyd Cole.

James Ewers from My Luminaries performed a solo set, just weeks after selling out the famous Water Rats in London, where fans queued outside and round the corner to see them play.

This evening James’s music is more haunting as it’s just him and a guitar and a spotlight. It’s spine-chillingly mesmeric and I only wish the chaps who insisted on playing a loud games machine appreciated it too.

Finally the mighty Christopher D Ashley performed a twisted grime-tastic electro set from his side project Pain Struck Stanley Dumb with cohort Luke Dumbstruck.

Lauded by the Baron Of Techno DJ Dave Clarke and Radio One’s Rob Da Bank, this was a rare treat that sealed off a night of great music.

Come join in the fun every Wednesday at Bar Four from 8pm.

It’s free!
