Hooray for The Hoosiers

By Laura Herbert
November 05, 2008

One of the UK’s hottest bands of the moment The Hoosiers entertained screaming fans during their first gig in town last week.

Woodley lad and ex-Waingels College pupil Irwin Sparkes returned to his hometown with fellow band members 27-year-old Alfonso Sherland, from Bracknell – a former pupil of Easthampstead Park School – and Martin Skarendahl from Sweden.

The band performed in front of 2,300 fans at Rivermead Leisure Centre in Richfield Avenue last Wednesday night.

Ian Davis, general manager at the leisure centre, told the Post: “The concert was really good, it was a great night with lots of audience participation.

“It was a really nice pop concert. We love this sort of thing and it’s great to have these kinds of bands in town. It’s something different and exciting.”

The indie band will be returning to the town tonight  when they play a two-hour DJ set at Sakura in Gun Street in the town centre.
