Hit or miss...

Was it a vintage Reading Festival? Probably not, yet Carling Weekend fans were still treated to a highly palatable offering that was as fun and fierce yet cleaner and greener than ever before.
There is no such thing as a bad Reading and 139 bands on four stages ensured once again there was something for everyone and the ability to create an organic festival experience that is perfect for any given fan.
This year’s organic flavours came with a strong aftertaste of Pumpkin and Chili Pepper and were laced with a spicy mix of musical ingredients from around the world.
Away from the rock smorgasbord, this year’s festival was greener than a seasick frog, right down to free shower gel from Ecover in the free hot showers on site. Those showers could have been overused, had bad weather added to the flooding of a few weeks ago; yet any fears of a cancelled festival seemed light years away as summer finally arrived in Reading.
Other green initiatives saw organisers exchanging a can of lager for a bag of rubbish and ‘cash for cups’ – 10p back on every paper cup handed in by vigilant festivalgoers.
It meant the regular sight of a fan carrying a recyclable tower of 50 paper cups in the hope of earning a free beer.
All very commendable, but the music, once again, was priceless...
