Guildford-based band Thank You London play music that has been described as ‘acoustic folk with a chilled-out vibe’.
Singer/guitarist Tom Fenton, who is joined by Darby Manning on guitar/backing vocals and Ben Fountain on the cajon, said: “We are very excited. We are due our guitarist Darby who’s been in Australia for the last three weeks so we are currently going to be practising three times a week up until the event.”
The lads, who have been friends for many years and even lived together, state that forming a band came as a natural progression of their friendship. They have been performing live at open mic nights all around Guildford and they will in fact be introducing a fourth band member, music producer Terrence O’Donoghue, to perform with them at GuilFest.
According to Fenton, who also co-runs a film company responsible for producing Thank You London’s music videos, they are all very pleased with this year's slot.
He said: “We are excited about it. We’ve got a couple of little tricks up our sleeves this year, it’s been marketed well, so there’s some good stuff coming up.”
The musicians also believe it is a good time for the genre, following the huge success of artists such as Ed Sheeran and Ben Howard. Writing and producing their own music as well as making covers of popular songs, Thank You London have gained a significant number of fans, with their Facebook page exceeding 10,000 likes.
Although unclear about the outcome of the group, the band is optimistic about the future.
Fenton said: “Ideally, what we would like to do is continue and keep it quite chilled out as an internet vibe, because that’s what we are really, most of our stuff has been played over the internet, doing covers on YouTube.
“If it is going to continue, that’s the way to go about it, pushing the internet stuff and doing gigs every now and again.”
