Q&A with The RamonasBy Jake Ben-David
July 09, 2012
ALL girl tribute band The Ramonas will be bringing their punk anthems to GuilFest this year.
With members based in and around Surrey, their roots in the local area should make it a special performance.
We discuss the festival, band highlights and male groupies with vocalist Cloey Ramona and bassist Pee Pee Ramona.
Firstly, have you ever met any other Ramones tribute bands?
Cloey: Not personally but they are out there. Would be interested to see them in action actually.
Pee Pee: I don't think we've ever met any face to face but a few get in touch on Facebook sometimes. We did a gig in France a year ago that was on the anniversary of Joey [Ramone]'s death. It wasn't Ramones tribute bands but every band had to play a short set of Ramones tunes, it was brilliant!
Which gig has been the most memorable for you?
Cloey: Definitely our gig with Richie Ramone. It was such an honour to play with him and we had an absolute blast!
Pee Pee: The gig with Richie was definitely the highlight. The worst gigs are when the promoter doesn't promote, that happened a few times when we were starting out. But we're really lucky now to have Crucial Talent on board booking gigs as well as some great promoters.
You're playing at GuilFest this year, is it your first time at the festival?
Cloey: Yeah, it is our first time there but we are really excited about it. It's gonna be a lot of fun!
Pee Pee: Really looking forward to this one as it's a kind of a local festival for us and there's some great bands playing. We always enjoy playing festivals. Hopefully it won't rain!
Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to make the GuilFest appearance extra special?
Cloey: Hmmm, we always have a few tricks, so we will have to see...
Pee Pee: We're filming a little documentary so if you'd like to be in it come and speak to us at GuilFest!
Which song tends to go down the best at shows?
Cloey: It is always Blitzkrieg Bop.
Pee Pee: ...and people always sing along to Sheena [Is A Punk Rocker].
Which member of The Ramonas is the biggest troublemaker?
Cloey: I think we can all have our moments, but it would definitely have to be either Margy (drums) or Rhonny (guitar)!
Pee Pee: It depends who's had the most to drink!
Finally, as an all girl band, do you often find yourself fighting off adoring male groupies?
Cloey: Ha ha, on the odd occasion yeah, although when we come off stage we are pretty sweaty and gross so it's probably enough to put some men off. We do get quite a lot of funny comments off YouTube and Facebook though.
Catch The Ramonas at GuilFest on Friday, July 13 at 5.20pm and find out more about the band at www.ramonas.co.uk.
