'Fresh and exciting' line-up for Doubledotbash!

By Rachael Pywell
July 04, 2012

South Street Arts Centre and local promoters Doubledotbash! have announced the full line up for their third annual festival this Saturday.

Legendary Welsh songwriter and former Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci frontman Euro Childs will be taking to the stage for a day of musical surprises.

Japanese band Bo Ningem will be bringing their attention-grabbing psyche-kraut-rock to the stage, while Laura J Martin will be playing her unique set of flute, guitar and vocal looping.

The deliberately eclectic line up includes something for everyone, from art-folk to DIY rock, electronic, drone and contemporary classical.

“There’s a really nice breadth to the programme this year,” said South Street’s art co-ordinator John Luther.

“We find this far more exciting than seeing a lot of just one genre where, however good the line up, the music starts to merge into one.

“Every act at DOUBLEDOTBASH! should stay fresh and exciting.”

Wordsmith Seamus Fogarty will also be taking to the stage, playing songs from his debut album, backed by violin duo Geese.

DOUBLEDOTBASH! has been hugely successful over the past three years, quickly establishing itself as an important date in the calendar for music fans.

“The festival was a really joyous occasion for me,” said folk singer Rachel Dadd who performed last year. “I felt very privileged to be able to perform in such a nice room on a beautiful piano to such an appreciative audience.”

The festival will utilise both stages at South Street this year, and feature a food stall from Tutu’s Ethiopian Table.

Tickets for the event are available in advance for £10, or £15 on the door.

hi docd. i help organise the event, so thought i'd give you a bit more info around your concerns!

you are right, there are fewer local bands on the line-up. part of that is because the whole line-up is a lot smaller - we have gone down to 17 acts compared to 36 last year.

we also gave ourselves a rule that we weren't going to repeat any bands that we put on last year, and the sad fact is there aren't that many other local bands that fit in with the identity of the event.

we're excited that we are able to give a couple of new local acts their debut performances - LUA who are a new band featuring members for om corporation and amy's ghost - and SUN SKELETONS DUO which is something new from one dude from workin man noise unit, and one dude from the long defunct the big sleep.

luckily for you, the caversham festival is happening over the same weekend, and they have loads of local acts playing by the river on sunday.

and of course if you want to tell us about some rad local acts that we have missed, please email doubledotdash@gmail.com

Last year there were a lot of local bands as part of the festival. Shame there's not a significant part of it this time dedicated to the local scene, and because of that I won't be going.
