New open mic nights to showcase talentBy Laura Herbert

Budding singers and musicians can showcase their talents at the launch of monthly open mic events starting next month.
Singer/songwriter Charlie Luffrum and his friend Mace Matthews are launching East Berkshire Open Mics on Friday, March 2, and Sunday, March 4, offering an electric and acoustic set.
Charlie, from Priestwood, said: “The idea behind the open mic events was that there weren’t that many places for local bands to showcase their talents over the weekend in Bracknell which were also free for people to get in and we wanted to change that.
“We used to run the electric night a couple of years ago and it was very popular with both musicians and listeners alike so we’ve decided to start it again, and also to start a more acoustic offering on a Sunday.”
The electric night is due to launch at The Newtown Pippin pub in Harmans Water from 8.30pm on March 2, where bands can have full use of a guitar and bass, amps, drums and a keyboard.
Charlie added: “It’s easy for them to turn up and enjoy themselves without having to lug masses of equipment about.
“It’s free to get in and all bands of all genres and experience are welcome, as are solo acts or even musicians not in bands as there’s always an opportunity for ad hoc groups to be thrown together.”
Charlie and Mace, from Birch Hill, already have local bands Luna Rai and Freakshow signed up to entertain the crowd.
The acoustic event will launch at The Royal Oak pub in Bullbrook from 6.30pm on Sunday, March 4. So far Scattered Few and Simon Williams have booked a slot.
