Battle of the school bands coming to The Hexagon

January 05, 2010

“We will rock you...and that’s a promise!” Says Pete Doyle, founder of the Reading Rock Academy.com.

Eight of the best school rock bands from Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire will battle it out at the Grand Final of the first annual Battle of the School Rock Bands at The Hexagon, Reading on January 23 and help support children with autism.

Special guest judges are Nik Hayward or Haircut 100 fame and producer Martin Rushant.

First prize is £5,000 worth of Dawson's gift vouchers for the winning school. A local recording studio is also offering to produce a professional CD for the winning band.

This is a charity fund raising event for Priors Court Autistic special school in Newbury.  “We want to raise money for some music sensory technology for kids with autism at the school.” says Pete Doyle,  “there is still more to learn about autism and I would like all proceeds from this event to help the school and also celebrate talented young rock musicians at the same time.”

Pete’s aim is for the academy to run an annual event to raise money for local charities and at the same time give school rock bands a chance to play live music in safe and professional environment. “Learning an instrument takes time and dedication, I admire anyone who wants to learn any musical instrument and will always have the patience needed to help them. “Pete says.

Other companies supporting the event include: - Reading 107FM, Dawsons Music, Sony, Marshall Amplification, DrumWight, Guitar Works, Plug and Play Studios, White House Studios, Vamp Studios, Guitar Hero.

Tickets cost £5 and available from The Hexagon box office on 0118 960 6060 or www.readingarts.com

This was an amazing night. Well done Pete and all the crew who gave their time and effort for nothing. Good luck with getting Jack Black on the judging panel next year... :-)

He's never been known as Nik, but as NICK. Your getting him mixed up with Nik Kershaw.
