‘Lubricating’ ale celebrates CAMRA birthday

15/03/2011

Members of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) are celebrating the organisation’s 40th birthday with a special brew.

West Berkshire Brewery, in Yattendon, has brewed a commemorative beer called WB-40 which is described as ‘lubricating the throats of drinkers’.

The ruby-coloured beer has a strength of four per cent and the name has been used with the full blessing of the WD-40 company.

CAMRA’s Berkshire South East branch will be holding a 40th birthday party at The Crispin, in Denmark Street, Wokingham, at 8pm tomorrow.

WB-40 will be available in selected pubs across Berkshire tomorrow.

   Tim Beer,

No I haven't but I'll keep an eye out for it. I'm in Wallingford tonight so I'll see if it's there at all yet.

I am sure overweight, middle aged bores of the Berkshire area will be so very glad of this snippet. Rejoice oh unfit ones, REJOICE!

Not too sure Tim, I drunk it when it was a guest ale in a Wallingford pub but it hasn't made a reappearance since unfortunately. It would be nice if it ventured outside of Oxfordshire as it was a very very nice pint.

Abingdon Bridge has not ventured to Reading yet. I'm not too sure how much effort Will Laithwaite is putting into spreading the beer outside of Oxfordshire?

I don't drink in the pubs selling this as per their website but I might make an effort to get to one of them. I highly recommend Abingdon Bridge should anyone come across that ale.

I would say to "TO be taken with a pinch of salt" that he/she must not have the most sensitive of eyes as it is clear from her comment that Yellowcat is a she.

Oh yea I saw this beer advertised on the chalk board and a poster in The Crown in Theale. Sadly the bar staff had know idea what I was talking about when I tried to order it so I am still awaiting a taster. Why have advertise it if you haven't got it?!

Ale all the way!!! However I would say to Yellowcat that he must not have the most sensitive of taste buds if he can't taste the difference between a Carlsberg and a Heineken...

Cracker Jack, CAMRA may be perceived as boring to you, but I'd rather drink ale than gassed up tasteless rubbish. I can't taste the difference between popular mass brewed lagers. And no I'm not middle-aged, balding or beer-bellied or even male for that matter.

I will dig out my cardigan and sandals and drink a pint of this.

Well done to CAMRA. If I see this ale on sale I shall give it a sup.
