How to Build a Bionic Man

9pm

Channel 4

In the 1970s, there was a show called the Six Million Dollar Man, where an astronaut who suffered horrific injuries was "rebuilt" by scientists who "had the technology".

Nowadays, you could buy an average footballer or pay a reasonable bonus to a bank chief executive with that cash.

Time and technology has moved on a lot since the days of silly 1970s American TV and rebuilding people is a serious concept these days,

In this documentary see how the prosthetics and robotics research is now largely funded by the US, which has put huge amounts of cash into developing artificial limbs and even artificial organs.

The programme is hosted by psychologist Bertolt Meyer, who has an artificial hand himself.

He watches in awe as the team are able to create a bionic man, a robot made mostly from prosthetic parts.

We also see how the technology can help cure blindness and hear how there could even be chips to help people with dementia improve their memories.
