Twyford singer through to X Factor boot camp

September 01, 2010

A Tilehurst singing teacher has made it through to the boot camp stage of X Factor with girl group Dice.

Photos of Katrina Hitti (known as Kat) and her group appeared in the national press after judge Cheryl Cole advised them to ‘lay off the fake tan’ before going on to give them the thumbs up.

Ms Hitti, 23, who runs her own pop school in Tilehurst, and her group are now hard at work rehearsing for round two which could then lead to a visit to one of the judge’s homes.

Dice performed an acapella version of Jason Derulo’s hit In My Head on the first of the new X Factor series on Saturday, August 21, and the clip on You Tube has had more than 4,000 hits already.

Ms Hitti, of London Road, Twyford, said the group had to go through an interview and three auditions before getting a chance to perform in front of Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell.

She said: “I can’t even explain what it was like. It was the most nerve-racking thing I have ever done in my life and I have done some big gigs.

“When we came off stage I just burst into tears.”

She said of the Cheryl Cole ‘fake tan’ comment: “I was a bit offended because I don’t wear fake tan.

“I suppose she has got to say something to make it interesting to watch.”

She added: “It was a bit of a shock seeing your picture in The Sun but it’s all good publicity and we have got through to boot camp.”

The former Piggott schoolgirl teaches singing and dancing and runs her own pop school for children, called Shooting Stars, which operates in Fitness First gym in Tilehurst.

She is also the singing coach of Bethany Bianga who came third in this year’s Has Reading Got Talent? at Broad Street Mall.

Ms Hitti got together with the other Dice girls in January.

She said: “We have done a lot of gigs in clubs around London and we have recorded a couple of tracks and been working solidly together.

“Our main aim has always been to be on X Factor.”

The girls have got their wish but now face a daunting task at boot camp, where the acts are put through their paces with singing and dancing professionals.

Ms Hitti said: “My Facebook was off the hook the night we were on TV and we’ve received really good positive feedback.

“But I’m a bit nervous because boot camp is a lot of hard work in very little time.”

Burt, there may be 2 current ones today but tomorrow or next week I'm sure we will be bombarded with the usual barrage of tacky X factor fame seekers that seem to come and go all the time on here.

Not sure where you are going by your over exaggerating by comparing Reading to harlem in the 1970's (great comparison..), but whatever floats your boat. Lets face it, I like to moan about things like this and you like to moan about the fact that I moan about things like this.

2 Hugh my freind, there are exactly 2 X factor stories on this site. Both of the 2 stories are relevant to our area, so can't see an issue here.

Like it or not X Factor draws huge audiences, therefore, as far as EP are concerned, these are very much news worthy stories.

So please, if you dont mind, comment on the latest assault story and try to convince yourself and others that living in Reading is like living in Harlem in the 1970's.

"Haha, Hugh and co. lose track on the stories they bad mouth."

Thats because there are so many x factor/talent competition stories like this floating around at the moment that it's easy to loose track of which one is which...

By the way thanks to the spelling nazis for picking up that I spelt a word wrong. Clearly this is more of an issue than actually debating the story in question!

You're right lester. That was the story on the website earlier, which has now dissappeared.

Excellent, we can now look forwards to double the number of tedious x factor related stories.

Yippeee..

The doom and gloom merchants of old Reading town. You'd think we resided in Mexico the way they bang on.

haha - No Hugh but you have made me laugh.

My comment is based on your endless down beat mood to all things. The X Factor is bought into by the masses, not my cup of tea but I DONT feel it dominates my life in anyway, in fact it is pretty easy to miss, dont watch it, dont read it if you dont like it.

Like a Young Burt Reynolds - do you realise what a complete hypocrite you are? You're making all the effort to tell people posting on this story that "if you don't like it don't read it etc bla bla bla", yet here you are doing it yourself.

I hope we haven't ruined your X factor viewing pleasure...

Erm......I know........DONT READ IT IF YOU DONT LIKE IT...........

Senor - a device that measures a physical quantity and converts it into a signal

Censor - Censorship, the control of speech and other forms of human expression

I just hope EP does have SENSE and not bow to the, want to be seen as cool and non sheep like, however in turn being completely sheep like, pointless comments.
