Support Danyl Day at The Oracle

By Natalie Slater
November 05, 2009

The Oracle will be showing its support for Danyl with a special Support Danyl day today.

Staff will be donning their Danyl T-shirts in a bid to get the whole of Reading voting for the talented singer in this Saturday’s competition.

Members of The Oracle team will be joined by Helen Woodford, Danyl’s colleague at Starmaker, his mum Marie, sister Janine, and friend Mac, who will all be helping to encourage Reading’s shoppers to get behind the singing star.

Reading’s X Factor superstar Danyl Johnson has thanked his hometown for their support in getting him through another week.

Arborfield hunk Danyl, 27, a former pupil at Highdown School, had come in the bottom two last week and suffered a blow after receiving negative comments from judges on this weekend’s show.

He sang Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing during rock week but blamed being unable to hear the backing music for starting out of key.

The performing arts teacher at Mo’s Dance School in Coley Park and former Starmaker pupil was accused of being too cocky by many critics and stepped on to the stage on Saturday with a more toned down performance.

But judge Dannii Minogue said she thought he had lost his “mojo” and Cheryl Cole said: “You just don’t do it for me Danyl.”

Monica Cleaver, from Mo’s Dance School, attended the live performance.

She said: “I was so nervous for him. He was a bit down afterwards to be honest. Dan has had a terrible battering the last couple of weeks and is exhausted. He is feeling the pressure.

“I just don’t think we have seen the real Danyl yet. The songs they are giving him are not allowing him to be who he is, he is up-tempo and he is energetic and he can move.

“Other acts are getting dancers and sets and he is being asked to fill the stage on his own. If I put on a performance like that for my kids the parents would be complaining I wasn’t being fair.

“On Saturday they started putting up Lloyd’s set instead of Danyl’s and Simon was going crazy, it was a real furore. It made Danyl very anxious and then he just could not hear the backing music.

“He is picking himself up and I am confident he will be back with a bang.”

During the show Danyl’s mentor Simon Cowell, said: “When he comes out confident he is cocky but when he tones it down he isn’t confident. I genuinely, genuinely hope the public vote for you this week because you deserve it.”

It was a nail-biting results show on Sunday but Danyl made it through without having to sing for survival.

Rachel was voted off after falling into the bottom two – with teenager Lloyd Daniels – for the third time.

Speaking to The Xtra Factor host Holly Willoughby on ITV2 after the show, he said: “I think my success so far is because Reading has got behind me.”

A Danyl party was held at pentahotel in Oxford Road, on Saturday night when friends and family gathered to vote. The hotel is planning another this week.

Also giving a big thumbs up was Jude Chapman from Dancia dancewear store in Caversham. Her two children are pupils of Danyl’s at Mo’s.

She said: “We had a great time at pentahotel and the support for Danyl in Reading is just fantastic. He was obviously feeling a bit upset with the ways things had gone the week before but we were delighted with the way things turned out on Sunday.

“I think he will come back fighting.”

Another talented act from Reading who have made it big showed their support for Danyl while performing at The University of Reading wearing Danyl T-shirts.

Booty Luv are former Denefield School students Nadia Shepherd and Cherise Roberts who have had their own chart success and have recently released their new single Say It.

- Starmaker are putting up posters of support for Danyl in the Gun Street outlet next to the Purple Turtle.

oh my goodness - what a cynical lot you are !! he's a nice guy who's having a go at making something of himself. If all of you making horrid commets hate the programme so much why don't you try not watching it - a simple solution that requires less effort than emailing in to tell us how unhappy you are x

I'm considering wearing a t-shirt with something anti-danyl on it. He needs to go now.

Truly the saddest and most pathetic thing I've ever seen! Funny how he blames the backing music for him singing completely out of tune yet none of the others had that problem. I would say thats something you need to get used to if you are going to be a performer but I guess in the unlikely even of him winning he would just be miming for the rest of his career anyway.
