Madagascar: Escape 2 africa (Cert U)

December 16, 2008

The zany zoo animals who made it to Madagascar have itchy feet again – and this time they head to the Serengeti.

After crash-landing in an African game reserve, Alex the lion (Ben Stiller), paranoid giraffe Melman (David Schwimmer), zebra Marty (Chris Rock) and Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith) are faced with an entirely new challenge – their very own species.

Even better, Alex is reunited with his long-lost father Zuba (Bernie Mac) who runs his own pride.

However it soon emerges Alex’s rather slimy uncle Makunga (Alec Baldwin) has designs on a take-over, which means Alex has to stop being such a neurotic New Yorker and step up to learn what it means to be an alpha male.

While, visually, the Madagascar stories have never tried to out-do their Pixar rivals in terms of graphics, this time around the scenes are more jam-packed with crazy animals with even loopier traits – cementing their favour with adults and children alike.

And instead of hankering after home, Alex and the ever-growing herd of a cast learn how to face their responsibilities.
