Death Race
September 30, 2008
British tough guy Jason Statham stars as Jensen Ames – a former stock car racing champion who is framed for murder when his wife Suzy (Janaya Stephens) is brutally killed.
Holed up in one of the worst prisons in the country, Ames finds himself embroiled in a desperate fight for his life as part of a kill-or-be-killed car racing competition.
The ‘death race’ is a sadistic pay-per-view sport devised by Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen) in which inmates can win their freedom from prison after five wins.
Prisoners create their own monster cars, stocked up with machine guns, flamethrowers and missiles and then race an opponent – whoever is still alive at the end is the winner.
‘Lucky’ Ames is asked to take over from former four-time death race superstar Frankenstein, who dies one victory short of freedom.
The hero needs to win just one race and kill his opposition before he is killed in order to be freed and return home to his baby daughter.
