Clarissa and the King's cookbook

By Mike Jennings
May 07, 2008

The fantastic Medieval series continues on BBC4 with the remaining fat lady concocting dishes served in the reign of Richard II.

Taken from what is believed to be Britain’s first cookbook (The Forme of Cury) written down 700 years ago, she prepares recipes made from beaver, pike and lamprey. And apart from the food, we have a glimpse of what life was like for our ancestors.

Plagued by indigestion maybe?
