Wokingham Living Advent Calendar
Where: Across Wokingham
When: Every evening until Christmas Eve
A WHOLE month of festive activities will be going on around Wokingham.
For the first time the council is staging a ‘living calendar’, with a mystery performance taking place at a different location each night.
The performances will start at 6.15pm and last for 15 minutes.
The location of performances each day will be revealed via an online advent calendar, which can be found at advent.wokingham-tc.gov.uk.
Thames Hospicecare Christmas Concert
Where: Wellington College, Crowthorne
When: Thursday, December 6, doors 6pm, show 7pm
Cost: £8 adults, £4 children
THE beautiful historical chapel at Wellington College will become a festive wonderland for a night of carols and readings in aid of Thames Hospicecare.
Musicians, soloists, choirs, bands and readers from across Berkshire will be sharing in the Christmas magic and creating a wonderful winters evening.
Steaming cups of mulled wine and mince pies will also be on offer.
Reading Operatic Society Christmas Concert
Where: Brookside Church, Lower Earley, 7.30pm
When: Saturday, December 8, 7.30pm
THE eaves of Brookside Church in Lower Earley will be resounding with the sounds of operatic voices this winter.
The Reading Operatic Society is performing its annual Christmas concert for friends and visitors with classic festive tunes and sing-a-long carols on the bill.
Donations from the event will go to the Jubilee Sailing Trust and towards supporting the Society.
Christmas Tree Festival
Where: St Mary’s Church, Twyford
When: Thursday, December 6, to Sunday, December 9, 11am-4.30pm
Cost: Free during the day. Tickets needed for some events
TWINKLING fairy lights will be beaming from more than 60 trees at the annual Christmas tree festival in Twyford.
Villagers, businesses and community groups have been busy decorating miniature Christmas trees which will go on display during the four day festival.
There will also be a number of performances during the festival including a show by illusionist Steve Price on Saturday, December 8, and a performance by the High Voltage Singers on Friday, December 7.
Trinity Concert Band Christmas Concert
Where: Bearwood College Theatre, Sindlesham
When: Saturday, December 8, 7.30pm
Cost: £8 advance, £10 on the door
THE famous opening bars to Fairytale of New York will bring smiles to faces at Bearwood College on Saturday.
The Trinity Concert Band will be playing The Pogues’ classic Christmas song as part of its festive concert.
White Christmas and band favourite Sleigh Ride are also on the programme alongside other festive tunes.
Saxophonist Rosie Edgar will perform a solo song during the concert and there will a chance for audiences to join in with carols.
Primary Schools Carol Concert
Where: Loddon Valley Leisure Centre, Lower Earley
When: Sunday, December 9
MORE than 400 schoolchildren will be singing their favourite Christmas carols at the annual primary schools concert in Lower Earley.
Berkshire Maestros Corelli Orchestra will accompany pupils from 23 schools, with more than 1,000 parents and teachers expected to make up the audience.
“The annual primary schools carol concert is a highlight of the civic calendar,” says Wokingham Borough Council mayor Councillor Bob Wyatt.
“It is one of the biggest events of the year and one that, as Mayor, I am very much looking forward to.”
St John Ambulance Christmas Choral Evening
Where: Sindlesham Court, Mole Road
When: Friday, December 14, doors 6.45pm, show 7.45pm
Cost: £12 adults, £8 concessions.
KIND hearted concert-goers will be digging deep to help support the St John Ambulance Service at a Christmas choral evening.
The Reading Haydn Choir is performing a selection of carols at Sindlesham Court to help raise funds for the service.
Each year St John Ambulance Service saves hundreds of lives around the country.
Guests will also be able to enjoy mulled wine and mince pies before the concert.
Crowthorne Symphony Orchestra Christmas Concert
Where: St John’s Church, Waterloo Road, doors 4pm, concert 4.30pm
When: Saturday, December 15
Cost: £10 in advance, £12 on the door. Under 16s free
FAMILIES are invited to join an afternoon of seasonal music courtesy of the Crowthorne Symphony Orchestra.
The orchestra will be performing a variety of popular carols led by musical director Robert Roscoe.
Seasonal refreshments will be served in the interval.
Bracknell Choral Society Christmas Concert
Where: St Michael’s Church, Easthampstead
When: Wednesday, December 19, 7.30pm
Cost: £6, under 18s free.
BRACKNELL Choral Society will be rounding up a successful year with an evening of carols and classical works.
The choir will perform selections from Handel’s Messiah as well as traditional festive music.
Conductor Greg Hallam will lead the choir with Nick Austin on the organ.
Refreshments will also be available in return for a donation.
Carols in the Mall
Where: The Mall Gallery, Civic Offices, Shute End
When: Friday, December 21, 4pm to 5.30pm
WOKINGHAM residents are invited to join the borough mayor Councillor Bob Wyatt for the annual Christmas sing-a-long.
The Berkshire Maestros South Brass Band will be striking up around the Christmas tree in the mall playing a selection of carols.
There will be free parking and a free glass of mulled wine and a mince pie on offer while you sing.
Carols in the Park
Where: The Junipers, Barkham
When: Friday, December 21
Cost: Free, but there will be a collection in aid of the band
THE darkness will be lit up with lanterns and the sound of a brass band will be breaking through the trees in Barkham.
The Berkshire Maestros will be striking up and leading an evening of carol singing in the open air.
The night begins at the bottom of The Junipers in Elizabeth Park before progressing to the hammerhead at the top of The Junipers, where mince pies and mulled wine will be served.
