Everyone welcome to Dushera celebrations

Fireworks, food stalls and a funfair will be adding spark to Thames Promenade to celebrate the Hindu festival Dushera.

Last year more than 2,000 people flocked to the event when the whole town was invited to join in the festivities.

A similar spectacular event is due to take place on Saturday at Thames Promenade behind Rivermead Leisure Centre from 4pm until late.

The annual celebration commemorates the triumph of good over evil when the Hindu God Lord Ram killed the demon King Ravan.

The event is again an open invitation hoping to bring the community together.
