Reginald D Hunter brings Scoundrels to South Street
June 27, 2012
There will be laughs aplenty next month when South Street Arts Centre hosts its first Scoundrels Comedy Club night.
Hilarious comic Reginald D Hunter will be on the bill when Scoundrels, which also runs clubs in London, Andover and Winchester, arrives in Reading.
Reginald is a frequent guest on the BBC’s Have I Got News For You and has also appeared on Live at the Apollo. The popular comedian will be testing out new material at South Street on Saturday, July 14, before taking his show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.
“We have always been passionate about all forms of comedy and have a strong history of excellent acts coming to our venue,” says South Street arts co-ordinator John Luther.
“We are extremely excited that Scoundrels Comedy Club is to be a part of the future of comedy in Reading as the club has a track record of offering the highest quality in stand-up.”
Scoundrels prides itself in bringing the best names on the stand-up circuit to its club nights, with acts like Josh Widdicombe and Stewart Francis topping the bill in the past. The company will be launching regular club nights in Reading from January next year, with top acts performing every third Friday of the month at South Street.
But comedy fans don’t have to wait too long to get the giggles as panel favourite Katherine Ryan and sitcom star Doc Brown will be arriving at South Street for a night of big laughs on Friday, July 20.
Katherine will be performing her latest show, Nature’s Candy, before taking it to Edinburgh later this summer. The Canadian comedian talks about divorce, motherhood and MTV in her show, aiming to show that the things that make us bitter in life can be the most hilarious.
Rapper-turned-comedian Doc Brown will be bringing his tongue-in-cheek take on hip hop culture to the stage. Doc is a regular on the London comedy circuit and has appeared in The Inbetweeners, Rev and Miranda.
Tickets for Reginald D Hunter are £15 and the show is recommended for over 16s only. Tickets for Katherine Ryan and Doc Brown are £10. To book either show visit www.readingarts.com
