L’Amour's angels: The Face Bar, Ambrose PlaceBy Miss L'Amour
December 04, 2008
The Angels rocked the night away at Face Bar (TUC for all you old school rockers) the longest running alternative venue in Reading.
We were there dancing along to DJ Dicky who plays various rock and metal and DJ Indie Filth, who plays a wide range of alternative, indie and techno rock.
The duo are the resident DJs here every Friday night.
The Friday which we made a visitation to what was a medieval special.
We were throwing our halos down for the night, joining the gorgeous busty wenches and dashing knights on the dance floor while the lovely DJ Dicky played us all the cheesy requests we wanted to heat us up for the night.
Face Bar manager Sharon Northmore tells me they try to do a theme night at least once a month – they also have other special nights. Coming up is Good Wrecking on Saturday, December 13 with the Psychobillie Rockerbillie featuring The Coffin Nails.
A week later, the regular Nights of Nostalgia will give the more mature partygoer an opportunity to enjoy various old school tunes to get you up on the dance floor.
All drinks are very reasonably priced with various bottles at £1.50 you can’t go wrong … the Angels soon found out this is a safe friendly club where everyone is open minded and anything goes, with regular customers who have been coming here for years.
Mel Ward and her friend tells me this club is like a community. “It feels like one big family, it rocks,” she adds.
Greg Davies, Glen McGuiness and Ron Eastwood gave The Face Club a rave review and said this is a great night and they love it here.
Katie Williams came all the way from Leeds just for the medieval special.
Also taking place at the same time, in the bar’s Blue Room was Electrocute. This takes place on the last Friday of every month and features tunes mixed by DJ Cyberchrist.
He describes his music as Industrial EBM Harsh electro for the more cyber goth among you.
He tells me his aim is to bring the cyber goth experience to Reading and there will be a guest DJ at its New Year’s Eve bash, tickets cost £5 in advance or £6 on the door.
The club is open from 9pm until 3am – earlier when there’s live entertainment. This Friday, exit 10 will be playing and doors open at 7.30pm.
All upcoming events and club information can be found on their myspace and Facebook pages.
