Celebrating Asian culture

26/ 6/2007

Now firmly established in the local cultural calendar, Reading’s annual celebration of Asian arts is relaunched as Dhoom Dhamaka.

The festival takes place over an extended period from July 7-22 and with new partners contributing to the dynamic mix, this collective showcase offers opportunities for people to experience a multitude of arts and cultural activities inspired by the traditions of South Asia.

Dhoom Dhamaka is supported by Reading Borough Council’s arts development team.

And the aim is to bring together a dazzling array of traditional and contemporary music, dance, visual arts and craft organised by community groups, schools and arts professionals to celebrate Reading’s rich culture, encourage participation and develop a dialogue between Reading’s diverse communities.

Graeme Hoskin, lead councillor for culture and sport, said: “Reading Borough Council is pleased to be working in partnership with groups and individuals across all Reading’s communities to deliver a broad and exciting arts and cultural programme that will enrich the lives of everyone living in Reading.”
