Day centre diners tucked into a gourmet fish and chips when a restaurant’s free lunch service returned.

More than 40 members at Wokingham & District Association for the Elderly (WADE) enjoyed the Smiles 4 Miles lunch on Monday provided by Wokingham Gourmet Kitchen in Finchampstead Road.

Restaurant owner Robert Tang: “We like to put money aside so we can come down to WADE twice a year and treat them to a nice meal.

“We cook it all on site and hopefully create a happy atmosphere.”

He added: “I and my business partners were born in Wokingham and we feel we owe the local area. Who better to give back to than the elderly who built this area to help make it the lovely and successful place it is?”

The members shared bottles of red and white wine, courtesy of K&L Wines.

Centre manager Jane Porter said: “Robert comes in, does the food for us and we benefit with the funds. He’s done it once before and it went down a storm so they’ve been looking forward to it.”

Whilst I commend their endeavours in this news article, I couldn't disagree more about the takeaway part I'm afraid. I've never had such greasy unappetising takeaway food in all my life. I think it's the only time I have ever not finished a meal. I can only assume that their eat-in food is significantly better.
