Pub of the Year competition: The Dukes Head

By Laura Herbert
February 14, 2013

When Adrian and Julie Taylor took over The Duke’s Head the pub was closed and had seen several owners in just a few years.

But almost a year later the couple are still working hard to get the pub, in Denmark Street, back on track.

Mr Taylor said: “Looking at what makes a pub we believe the answer is simple – good ale, wine and food, but not forgetting sympathetic conversation, hospitality and a warm welcome.

“We truly believe we have put love and affection back into the pub and we are slowly putting our pub back on the map.”

Adrian and Julie have more than 30 years experience running four-star hotels and have five rooms available at the pub..

Mr Taylor said: “In these austere times our hog roast food offers a delicious warm pork bap for as little as £2.50, and let’s not forget our Sunday lunch, which has been nominated as the best Sunday lunch anywhere.”

He added: “We are creating a place where us, the licensees, would want to spend time, share a pint with like-minded souls or spend a quiet moment in our warm snug.”

The couple host Pancake week events, a hog roast Christmas party and Motown evenings. To find out more visit www.dukesheadatwokingham.co.uk
