New allotments open in Finchampstead

By Laura Herbert
December 04, 2012

Green-fingered people in Finchampstead can now grow their own thanks to a new allotment site.

Following calls for allotments in the parish, Finchampstead Parish Council managed to secure a three-hectare site off Longwater Road.

Finchampstead’s MP Dr Phillip Lee officially opened the allotments last month with Councillor Roland Cundy, chair of the parish council.

The site now has rabbit and deer proof fencing, and has been set out with roadways, parking areas, water points and around 60 plots.

Dr Lee also judged the scarecrow competition and awarded first place to Joseph Lamberton from Finchampstead.

Fundraising is underway for further improvements to the site, such as a communal garden area, toilet, storage for communal equipment and a website.

Don't forget to join your local Horticultural Society. Wokingham has an excellent society with a shed which supplies all you will need for your garden including fertilisers, composts, bedding composts and a whole range of other gardening necessities at remarkably cheap prices. There is also an enormous amount of expertise if you need it.
