Help clear up Wildmoor Heath

By Becky Barnes
October 23, 2012

Volunteers are needed to help with clearing scrub and protecting wildlife at the Wildmoor Heath nature reserve.

The Berkshire Wildlife Trust is putting together a work party to carry out practical conservation tasks at the 257-acre nature Wildmoor reserve – the collective name for Owlsmoor Bog, Edgbarrow Heath and Wildmoor Bottom – between Crowthorne and Sandhurst over the winter.

Dan Akam from the Community Wildlife Team at the Wildlife Trust’s Berkshire office said: “This valuable heathland is one of the rarest habitats in the world and is vitally important for wildlife.

“It’s a great opportunity for local people to enjoy the heathland, and we might be roasting a few chestnuts and marshmallows round the bonfire too.”

The first work party will be held on Sunday, October 28, from 10am to 1pm, and then one Sunday each month throughout the winter months.

Volunteers can meet in the main car park on Crowthorne Road, Sandhurst.

For further information on the project, contact Dan Akam on 01628 829574 ext 206 or email danielakam@bbowt.org.uk.
