Charities reaped the rewards of this year’s Wokingham May Fayre as they were handed thousands of pounds from Wokingham Lions Club.

More than £12,000 was raised at the annual event organised by the fundraising club.

Club president Tim Hanton and secretary Debbie Slay presented cheques for £4,000 to Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service and Crossroads charity, which supports carers in the area, at Downshire Golf Club, in Easthampstead Park, on Wednesday, October 10.

Sue Balchin of Wokingham Lions said: “This year’s fayre raised much the same as previous years which is a great achievement in this economic downturn. We want to thank all the sponsors who helped.”

Other charities and organisations around Wokingham can visit www.wokinghamlions.org.uk or call 0845 833 7384 to find out how to receive the remaining money available.
