Best turn-out ever for Spencers Wood CarnivalBy Julie Spencer

Belly dancers, magicians, a puppet show, stalls and a funfair kept crowds entertained at the annual Spencers Wood carnival.
Organisers said it was the best turn-out yet for the even, which was held on Saturday and which raised money for community groups.
Liz Ratcliffe said: “We were very lucky with the weather – it was a small island of fine weather and it was probably our best year ever.
“The field was very busy and looked really good.”
Mrs Ratcliffe said they were still counting takings and the profits would be shared out among community and voluntary groups.
She said: “We do not charge an entrance fee as we like to keep the carnival accessible as it is all about bringing the community together.
“Once we have kept some money back for next year’s carnival there will be a pay-out of the profits from the raffle, the funfair and the food which will go to groups like the churches, the Brownies and the Rainbows in the community.”
