Cyclists line up to get bikes stamped

By Julie Spencer
October 01, 2012

A queue of cyclists lined up to get their bikes security stamped in Market Place in Wokingham.

During the session on Saturday, organised by Thames Valley Police and Wokingham Borough Council, a total of 96 bikes were marked by community warden Harun Kimani and Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Claire Nicholls.

PCSO Nicholls said: “It was fantastic, it went very well and people were asking if we were going to organise more sessions.”

Bikes marked during the session were stamped with a unique number and details of the frame, model number and owner’s names and addresses were taken and logged.

Even if the stamped security number is scratched off, the police can trace the rightful owner of a recovered cycle by matching the frame and model number with details stored on the database.
