MAPLEDURHAM - Mapledurham House. Diamond Jubilee fun day and party. Face painting, story-tellers, live music, sandwich tea, licensed bar and mobile petting farm. Every child who goes along on the day will receive a free commemorative mug. 2pm-6pm. £8 adults, £4 seniors, £ children over five, £20 family.
READING – Tilehurst Diamond Jubilee Celebration and Reading Chilli Cook-Off. Prospect Park. Car boot sale from 7am, festival from noon. The day will begin with a car boot sale from 7am to noon, followed by a picnic in the park until 8pm. Festival fun will run alongside the cook-off with trade stands, a bar, a funfair, food, novelty stands, and live music into the afternoon.
READING – Fairview Community Centre, George Street RG1 7RR. Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Face painting, barbecue, bouncy castle, street dancing, raffle and more. 12pm - 9pm. Admission free.

HURST – Jubilee Weekend. Saturday to Bank Holiday Tuesday. Hurst Village Society is going all out for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a packed programme of events over the long bank holiday weekend. Some of the highlights of the weekend include a cider festival at The Elephant and Castle and free wine tasting at Stanlake Park Wine Estate on the Saturday and Sunday. There will also be a jubilee church service at St Nicholas Church at 11am on the Sunday. The main party will take place on Bank Holiday Monday in a jubilee arena set up at Stow Bridge in Hinton Road. People can bring along their gazebos and picnic tables for a street party from 12.30pm. Hurst’s Got Talent will start at 2.30pm and there will be a jubilee crowns parade at 4.30pm. The village is also part of the national chain of beacons and will be lighting a jubilee beacon at around 10.15pm. On Bank Holiday Tuesday there will be a Hurst bowling club open day and evening service at St Nicholas Church. SONNING – Sonning Festival Jubilee Celebration. Saturday to Bank Holiday Tuesday. Scarecrows and rowing boats will be adding to an eclectic mix of jubilee celebrations in Sonning. The parish is hosting a weekend of activities to keep families entertained, starting with the Sonning Regatta on Saturday. The regatta will be held on the bank of the river opposite Blue Coat School boat house, just upstream of Sonning Lock, with a ferry operating on site. Refreshments will be available or people can bring a picnic along to enjoy. On Sunday the village will be hosting a Big Lunch street party. People are asked to register their attendance via www.sonningfestival.co.uk. The annual Scarecrow Trail will also take place on Bank Holiday Monday and Tuesday, with scarecrows dressed to a Diamond Jubilee and Olympics theme dotted around front gardens. Follow the scarecrow signs around Sonning to find them all. There will also be a flower festival in St Andrew’s Church.

CAVERSHAM – The Big Lunch at St John’s Church, Gosbrook Road. 12pm onwards. St John’s Church is inviting people to grab a seat and stay for lunch after its jubilee service at 10am. Bring and share dishes of pasta, plates of sandwiches and homemade cakes at The Big Lunch in Caversham. Everyone is asked to bring a plate of food for the party and soft drinks will be provided.

WOODLEY – Diamond Jubilee Children’s Party and Street Party in Woodley town centre. 11am to 3pm. TEA cup rides, swing boats and chair-o-planes will be keeping children entertained at a traditional children’s party and jubilee street party in Woodley. Punch and Judy will be providing entertainment throughout the day, along with a magician who has some surprises up his sleeve. Families are encouraged to bring picnics or buy food on site to eat at a large seating area which will be set up in the town centre. There will also be a variety of animals on site from the Miller’s Ark Farm, pavement chalk drawing, and much more.
TWYFORD – Twyford Donkey Derby and summer fair, King George V field. 1pm to 5pm. £2 for adults, children free. Young jockeys climb on to little donkeys and gallop down the field to the finish line. Each year someone takes a tumble from their noble steed, making for plenty of action and entertainment. The derby is coupled with a fun day, organised by the 1st Twyford Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, with carnival style games and refreshments. There is also usually a Second World War spitfire flyover, which is well worth a look. Tickets can be bought from Brighton’s newsagents in London Road or Fields Pharmacy in Longfield Road.
