Jubliee party plans for Woodley

By Caroline Cook
February 06, 2012

Streams of bunting will be hung around Woodley in the summer when the town throws a children’s party to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Plans are underway for a Diamond Jubilee celebration to be held on Sunday, June 3, in honour of the queen’s 60th year on the throne.

Town centre manager Jacques Lherbier outlined plans for members of the Woodley Town Centre Management Initiative (WTCMI) at a meeting on Wednesday, January 25.

He said: “We have made provisions to allocated £2,500 from next year’s budgets which is going to pay for a Punch and Judy or similar show. We will also have the animals from Millers Ark Farm as they were very successful at last year’s fun day.”

Members of the forum welcomed plans to celebrate the jubilee and raised a number of additional suggestions. They agreed to discuss proposals further as part of a Diamond Jubilee working committee.

Vestan/rogerjolly, get a life, people still love punch and judy and the monarchy, just because you don't like something thats no reason to think other people shouldn't enjoy things.tonyd

The Town Council can't resist any opportunity to spend a few bob (would have thought anyway the Councillors could supply Punch and Judy from their ranks). And when will someone tell me where the income from the markets goes, since if I am to be denied a seat by stall holders taking them over would like to think it is for a good cause purpose.

that's right vestan neither has the monarchy, but why let reality get in the way of delusion?

Might I suggest they try and get the mini band to perform? It is a long time since my childhood but I'm pretty sure punch and judy, and equivalent entertainment hasn't been popular for about 100 years
