Men – fancy a pie, pint and company?
October 07, 2008
A pie and pint session will help older men make new friends when it is launched next month.
The scheme will give retired men a place to enjoy similar people’s company, with a drink and something to eat.
The session has been organised by the Link Visiting Scheme, which provides visits to people aged 60 and above living alone to make sure they can have social opportunities.
The lunch will be held at The Bull at Barkham in Barkham Road.
Sam Jones, who volunteers for the scheme, said: “It’s for men only, because women tend to socialise much more anyway and we already have an afternoon tea group for them.
“People don’t have to be completely lonely to take part – if they just want to get out and about, they’re very welcome.”
The sessions will be held every month, between midday and 2pm. They will be held on Monday, October 13, Monday, November 3, and Monday, December 1.
Anyone who might have trouble affording the sessions can get in touch with Link and, if they would find transport to the pub difficult, there will be help available.
