- September. Clandon Park is holding an exhibition lifting the lid on the filming of The Duchess, this year’s period drama blockbuster starring Keira Knightley, which was filmed at this National Trust property. The event will open to the public during September, on Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Sundays.
- Friday, September 5. Bollywood Night at Kempton Park Racecourse. Kempton turns Bollywood for the night on the 5th September. - Saturday, September 6. The Princess Alice Hospice Therapy Team is leading a midnight walk to raise funds for the charity. It will start and end at Pools in the Park, Richmond upon Thames, and there will be a warm-up session, a goodie bag and a well deserved breakfast for all the participants at the end. - Saturday, September 6. Four races form part of a packed schedule of events and attractions appearing on the Brocus at Newdigate Village Day and Flower Show. The programme also features a fun dog show, shire horses, a dog funfair, ferrets and even llamas! Visitors of the two-legged variety will find plenty to keep them entertained, including a magician, fairground rides, fortune teller, sideshows, games, raffle, afternoon teas, balloon modelling and a children’s ‘Day at the Races’ themed fancy dress competition. - Sunday, September 7. Claremont Landscape Garden, Portsmouth Road, Esher KT10 9JG, opens for the National Gardens Scheme, from 10am to 6pm. This National Trust property is one of the earliest surviving English landscape gardens, begun by Vanbrugh and Bridgeman before 1720 and extended and naturalised by Kent and Capability Brown. - Until Sunday, September 7. Treasures - an exhibition of embroideries from the Embroiderers’ Guild Museum Collections. Treasures incorporates traditional and contemporary items from all across the world, including work dating from the late 16th Century up to the modern day. Accompanying the exhibition is an education project, Stitch and Discover: Treasures, which involves stitching inspired by the exhibition. - Friday, September 12. Rugby At The Races. The final of Sandown Park’s flat race meetings draw to a close with the last themed day of the summer. Prior to racing in the Parade Ring the racecourse will be hosting a ‘Rugby Panel’ which will consist of Stuart Abbot, the former Harlequins Centre player and the legendry Scott Gibbs who has represented Wales and the Lions. Old black and white photographs, up to date colour photographs, landscape paintings from the Guildford Borough Art Collection, and wide landscape photographs by John Miller. The celebration also coincides with the European Year of Food and Farming, and to acknowledge this, the Gallery Café at Guildford House will be serving dishes using local produce on its specials menu throughout the exhibition.
- Sunday, September 14. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra supported by Natasha Marsh and Alfie Boe perform the Breamore Proms - at Breamore House, near Fordingbridge, Hampshire. The Breamore Proms, held the day after the Last Night of The Proms, extends the Proms season through the weekend with an exciting programme and stunning laser show. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is supported by one of Britain’s hottest tenors, Alfie Boe (La Passione) who sang at the Royal wedding of Peter Phillips (the Queen’s eldest grandson) and his Canadian bride, Autumn Kelly. Julie Ellison, one of the UK’s top acoustic musicians, brings her intimate, solo show to Farnham Maltings as part of the final leg of her 2008 national tour. Julie’s live show interweaves compelling and memorable songs, beautiful guitar instrumentals and exciting interpretations of popular guitar pieces as she draws on her influences in ragtime, country blues, rock and classical music in a show that is moving as often as it is surprising. Guildford House Gallery is inviting everyone, regardless of age or ability to participate in “The Big Draw: Memories of a Journey” and help to create a giant train track of images of memories. This free event is a drop-in day, between 10am and 4pm in the Brew House. Participants can create their memory drawing on a postcard in advance, and either post it to the Gallery, or bring it along on the day, or create it there and then, using the free materials provided. Blank post cards will be available to be collected in the Gallery from October 1.
