PEDALLING volunteers at an international

engineering firm based in Reading managed to raise £8,000 for charity.

The 50 Foster Wheeler employees, and their friends and relatives, made £7,134 for the British Heart Foundation by cycling 58 miles from London to Brighton.

Bosses at the Shinfield Park company donated another £866 to up the cash raised to £8,000, which will be used for research and a range of initiatives to fight heart diseases across the UK.

Mick Gale, of the company's fired heater division and organiser of the ride, said: "Heart-related diseases remain one of the biggest cause of death in the UK today.

"We are delighted to do our bit to help this worthy cause."
