Winning runs in the family

November 13, 2003

TWO related Berkshire cheese makers have won awards at national cheese events.

Anne and Andy Wigmore, of Village Maid Cheese in Riseley, took two top titles at the recent British Cheese Awards 2003 with their Wigmore ewes' milk cheese.

It was judged Best English Cheese 2003 and Best Semi-soft Cheese, as well as gaining a gold medal together with their Waterloo cheese.

Mrs Wigmore's cousin Sandy Rose, who set up the Two Hoots Cheese company in Barkham just under a year ago with her husband Andy, won a gold medal at the British Cheese Awards with their Barkham Blue cheese.

They also entered the more recent World Cheese Awards, held at Olympia in London, where Barkham Blue was a cup-winning Best New Cheese, and picked up another gold medal.

Their more Continental style cheese Barkham Brie also won a gold medal.

Mrs Wigmore established Village Maid Cheese 17 years ago.
