Water firm boosts Iraq charity aid

8/ 5/2003

A WATER cooler company in central Reading is supporting a charity's work to help people in war-torn Iraq.

AquAid in Weldale Street is donating a percentage of the profit it makes each time it installs a water cooler to international charity Christian Aid.

The cash is helping the charity organise a mobile water treatment unit in Iraq and fund the Iraqi Refugee Aid Council (IRAC), which aims to train 200 Iraqis to assess humanitarian needs.

Anthony Walters, of AquAid, said: "The situation in Iraq is very severe. Many people are forced to drink from polluted rivers largely as a result of electricity blackouts and damage to water pumping and purification installations during and after the military campaign.

"This is putting thousands of families at risk from waterborne diseases and we are very pleased that we can be of assistance."
