A place in the sun for firms
July 29, 2002
READING businessmen got out of the office to socialise in the sun at a Chamber of Commerce organised barbecue.
Looking for ways to promote their business to other companies in the district, Shurgard Self-Storage joined up with the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce to hold a networking session at its Caversham Road site.
To make the event a more enjoyable affair, the company called in a steel band and wine tasting service to entertain guests at the barbecue on Thursday.
Between 50 and 60 businesses and even the Mayor of Reading, Liz Winfield-Chislett, turned up to enjoy the summer evening and make new contacts.
Chamber event co-ordinator, Jonathan Welch, said: "Kerry Sabine, the area manager for Shurgard, and myself were a little concerned about the unpredictable weather, but we both prayed and it seemed to work."
