The boss: “My name is James Jackson and I am the business manager of Hobs Reprographics Incorporating Print Room.
“I started as sales manager with Hobs Reprographics in 2007 following a five-year stint in a previous sales and business development type role. Hobs Reprographics incorporated the Print Room in July 2011 and in May this year I was asked if I would like to take the role of business manager at the Reading operation.
“As I really thrive on the challenge and excitement of working at such a fast pace, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
What is your business about? “Our business is all about service and I enjoy making sure our clients have the best products and services available.
“At Hobs Reprographics we are passionate about going the extra mile for our customers and feel this is how any business should be run.”
What product/services do you offer? “At Hobs Reprographics Incorporating the Print Room we offer high-end digital print and bespoke print solutions.
“Our bespoke bid and tendering products are first class and we really help the sales function of local businesses by producing the best pitch documents available and advising and creating different formats to help them win business.
“We have invested considerably in new printing, finishing equipment and IT infrastructure and have introduced many new products and services to our clients.
“We are set up to be able to supply high end print within a couple of hours if necessary and we are a completely on demand service – if need be we will work 24/7.
“Variety of service offering is key to our success, for example we do a lot of work for Private Finance Initiatives, constructing lots of documents in complex bids which may involve design and print for clients.
“Some engineers put through 30 or 40 orders a day, which require quick turn around.”
How and when did you start your business? “Hobs Reprographics was first established in 1969 and is now the largest privately owned reprographics organisation in Europe.
“Hobs carries the Queen’s Royal Warrant for services provided to the Royal Family and country, which was awarded in 2003.”
How many staff do you employ? “We are 18 strong here in Reading.”
Who are your customers? “It can be anyone, but core market are architects, engineering and construction, as well as a whole raft of other types of industry.
“There isn’t anyone we cannot help and we also work with students and people printing invitations to parties and other functions.”
What sets you apart from the competition? “We are really passionate about excellent customer service and going the extra mile. Hobs Reprographics has given us the ability to invest in the very best technology available, hence offering the most bespoke state of the art service.”
How has the recession affected business? “Since Hobs Reprographics started in 1969 we have lived through several recessions, however, several of our clients have had to be more competitive and aggressive in the market place, so we have helped them with the tender documents and this has been a growth area for us. We now believe the tide is turning and we are not only investing in people and services – we are also seeing our clients recruiting too.“
How do you feel about the future? “Very positive. We are based in an excellent area and have the capacity and a team of excellent staff plus the client bank in our vicinity to work with. As a company we are really proactive and positive and have great drive.
“We always look for opportunities, but also focus on our already existing business and much of our business comes through word of mouth from the work we have done.
“Our staff give a huge amount to our business and our clients. They are in tune with our clients, can interpret their requirements and turn this into something that enhances their business.”
