Asda applies for permission to extend delivery hours

By Natasha Adkins
January 03, 2013

A supermarket is seeking permission to allow deliveries to its site 22 hours a day, seven days a week.

Asda in Lower Earley has applied for planning permission from Wokingham Borough Council for the deliveries.

The store in Chalfont Way is coming to the end of a six-month extended delivery hours trial.

As part of the trial Asda started a hotline for residents to report any disturbances, particularly late at night or early in the morning.

Earley Town Council’s planning committee was asked to comment on the latest plans.

The committee sent its objections to the borough council.

It is also urging any neighbours disturbed by the noise to contact the hotline on (0118) 987 0300.

I think the 24 hour open Supermarket is the justifaction, it's hardly a residential area. 2 petrol stations one superstore another supermarket, several smaller shops, a pub, mcdonalds etc....

Surely there can be no justification for night time deliveries in what is essentially a residential area.
