Cuts lead to expansion for The Local Barbershop

The outlook is not all doom and gloom for the high street, as one barbershop has doubled its staff this month to cope with increasing demand.

The Local Barbershop has relocated from a unit at Montague House in Broad Street to another shop in the same building that is three times the size.

Simon Busby, owner of the business, said the move was a long time coming as the popular business regularly has customers lining up outside the door.

The expansion means the barbershop has four staff instead of two and has kept its prices the same.

Mr Busby, 37, a former pupil at The Emmbrook School, said: “We had queues of people out the door.

“Other businesses say they are struggling, but it seems barbering is a bit different.”

The business, which has been in the town for more than three years, is named because it is a local company, started by a local person, according to Mr Busby.

Well done - but unfortunately two others in Shute End have closed.

Also presumably the premises he took over were empty, following another business failure
