Businessman to help kick start economy

May 14, 2012

A man who set up his own cleaning business has been named local ambassador for a campaign to kick-start the economy.

Leigh Prendiville, 41, of The Brambles, Crowthorne, runs Domestique cleaners and is the ‘Local Champion’ for Wokingham and Bracknell in the government’s StartUp Britain scheme.

The campaign uses the expertise and passion of Britain’s leading businesspeople to inspire enterprise in the UK.

Mr Prendiville will be organising free talks and events for anyone thinking about starting their own business.

He said: “I want to inspire local people and offer my knowledge.

“Don’t be shy. Please come forward and ask someone who has done it.”

The businessman started his business Domestique in 2005 when he and his wife struggled to find a reliable cleaner.

He said: “I had to learn by trial and error and as time has passed I have met mentors and found it useful to learn from someone who has been there and done it.

“There is a big problem of unemployment in the 18-25 age group so I want to offer people leaving university the opportunity to start their own businesses.”

Details of events will be confirmed in due course.

Not the most positive comment I've ever read. The scheme is open to everyone. And strange you mention mention helping - in your words 'lowly domestic staff'. I am actually running a scheme exactly like that where you can get a job with us and then subject to performance of course you could end up actually running the business and owning a franchise outlet of our company. It is not the demographic origin of the applicant that is of significance but the individuals attitude. A positive person of any social background is more than welcome to contact me. if you think you are positive and are willing to work hard to achieve the success you desire please do contact me.

Yes, only offer th eoppertunity to people leaving univercity, becauase all the rest of the 18-25 age group are just minimium wage fodder for exploitation.

I just love these Government instigated schemes to help those who don't need it and ignore those who do.

Why not help the lowly domestic staff start their own business instead of working for you, put a bit of competition into the market?
