Dame Kelly Holmes to party for 2012

December 19, 2011

The town’s unemployed youngsters are set to benefit throughout 2012 from a spectacular fundraising gala dinner at the Hilton Reading.

Double Olympic gold winner Dame Kelly Holmes will be guest of honour at the Party in the Sky event on Friday, January 27, where the business community will be encouraged to support youngsters who are struggling to find work or enter training.

Organisers hope the black tie event will raise £20,000 for the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust (DKHLT), where every young person enrolled is monitored and supported by world class sports performers to enhance their self-belief and employability skills.

DKHLT’s Louise Wolsey said: “The support of an event like Party in the Sky which brings together business and training providers gives us a real platform to keep working in the area.”

For tickets, which cost £99 each or £990 for a table of 10, email Sue Brackley at Reading UK CIC at sue@livingreading.co.uk.

She does a lot in Reading, is she from here?

She helps with the reading half marathon relay challenge as well.

The types who are being targeted here probably like to get the glad rags on and turn up to a glitzy dinner where people can SEE them donating money to good causes, it's all about egos! If it takes a gala dinner to get them to get the cheque books out, then so be it.

Also, it's HOLMES...

How many times have the EP written an article on this event? Is it because the 2012 partnership is chaired by your editor or that seats still need to be sold? Come on businesses, instead of giving money for a dinner create a job. What are our social workers and the job centre being paid to do, if not to mentor youngsters struggling to find work or enter training. The concept for this event is not sound.
