Wokingham businesses should keep an eye on what they pay in business rates as new research reveals the borough is one of the best areas in the country for firms to get refunds.
Figures from chartered surveyors ratesrecovery.com place Woking-ham 15th in the country for successful appeals to have bills reduced.
Businesses are to have their bills re-evaluated this year and the surveyors urge people not to merely accept the new figures but to appeal if they think they are paying too much.
Director Nick Wright said: “People need to realise that all the figures quoted are assumed to be right, when often they aren’t.
“The valuations are often not right, so I’m not saying appeal for the sake of it, but certainly check and check again.”
Bracknell was just behind Wok-ingham in 18th place while Reading flies high in sixth place.
Statistics showed Fenland in East Anglia had the fewest refunds. The worst places tended to be in rural areas such as Barnsley in Yorkshire.
