Boys swap classroom for trading floor

November 05, 2010

Schoolboys hit the trading floor as they transformed into city businessmen for a day of stocks and shares.

The Year 10 pupils at the Forest School in Robin Hood Lane, Winnersh, experienced the ups and downs of the FTSE 1000 when BP visited the school for a Trading Challenge roadshow on Thursday, October 14.

Around 180 pupils split into groups to run their own companies trading in oil shares.

During the morning the boys were presented with various physical and economic challenges and they had to make the decision whether to buy, sell or hold their shares.

Throughout the road show each company estimated how different factors would affect their oil prices with some making a huge profit and others running into economic disaster.

Graeme Hawkett, head of maths, said: “The boys thoroughly enjoyed the activity.

“We were very fortunate to have some excellent presenters and facilitators from BP and we are very proud of the way that the boys traded and participated.

“A good day for all involved."
