Alan opens a joint to bring butchers’ back

The town centre’s newest shop owner is looking forward to meat-ing shoppers as he brings a tradition back to Bracknell.

Bracknell Butchers has opened in Crossway in the town centre.

Bracknell man Alan Plummer, 65,  a former builder, has bought the shop which used to be Mr B’s  the butchers until it shut down in 2008 despite never having worked in a butcher in his life.

But fans of the shop need not be worried because they will still see a familiar face preparing their meat.

Alan said: “The head butcher here is Dave the Butcher – he is the same as ran it before. He’s well known, everyone just calls him Dave the Butcher – that’s who he is.

“I’m a builder by trade. I’m 65 but I’m a YTS!

“I’ve known Dave for years and I was talking to him and he said that the butchers’ has just been sitting there and needs to be opened.

“Apparently people had been going into the charity shop next door and asking where ‘that nice butcher’ had gone.

“Well it’s back now.”

Bracknell Butchers has all the traditional fare you would associate with a butcher from lamb chops to sirloin steaks but also stocks a range of South African produce including cured meats like biltong.

Alan added: “All our beef is Scottish and English and it’s all hung for 21 days because that’s when it develops its flavour.

“We’re always looking to use local farmers and get produce from as close to here as possible.

“There is a big South African community around here but we have people who are coming here from miles away for our stuff – we’ve had people from Milton Keynes.”

A quick well done to Alan opening up a butchers in Bracknell. However there will only be 1 Mr B's these guys where brilliant, they looked after all my needs, now biltong is not so good along with the boerewors. Quick heads up to Alan- your butchers is great but please don’t try and copy what Mr B's had done as they where the best... If you ever need some advice I would try and contact Mr B himself.

Best of luck with everything!

CMA the apostrophe is there because butchers' is a shortened version of butchers' shop. If it just said alan opens a joint to bring butchers back it would mean he was bringing Mr Butcher or maybe Fred Butcher back. By keeping the apostrophe in it makes it clear it is a shop not a person

Why is there an apostrophe at the end of "butchers" in the headline?
