Next to open in town

A retail giant has confirmed what the Next big thing coming to Bracknell will be.

Fashion chain Next will be opening a huge new shop in the Peel Centre later this year.

The 15,000 sq ft store will include men’s, women’s and children’s clothes and the chain’s range of furniture and homewear.

The new Next will be one of the largest in the area, very slightly bigger than Reading’s Broad Street branch which covers 14,919 sq ft.

A spokesman for the chain said: “The opening date is to be confirmed but contracts have been signed and it will be a big store featuring our full range. It looks like it will open at the end of the summer.”

The store will be sited in the former MFI unit at the retail park in Skimped Hill Lane which is also home to Morrisons, Tesco Home Plus and Halfords and is owned by retail park company Land Securities.

Nick Duffield, portfolio director for Land Securities, said: “The re-configuration and pre-let to Next is the latest step in the rejuvenation of the centre which has been under way since 2008.

“The enviable town centre location and expanding retail line-up at the Peel Centre will be a major draw for other retailers and we are confident that this will be reflected in strong demand for the remaining space.”

Helen Barnett, marketing manager at Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, said: “The news of a Next store coming to Bracknell is very exciting.

“It will complement our retail mix in the town centre and offer shoppers even more choice.”

A planning application for the re-jig of the MFI unit has already been agreed by Bracknell Forest Council and will involve refurbishment and part demolition as well as the loss of 14 parking spaces and a reduction of the staff parking area.

Credit where it's due - fair play to BRP or whoever's responsible for this move - by 'eck Bracknell needs it! Next will be a much bigger draw than Made For Idiots!

And I won't have to travel to Reading to shop in Next, they actually do some good clothes which is mainly what I'm interested in. I don't care how big the name is - more about nice, affordable clothes that won't fall apart after 2 washes.

This is great news. It's about time some bigger names invested in Bracknell. We're getting there slowly but surely.
