What is your business about?
“At FastTrack Fit Camp our motto is Fit: Not Fat. We offer personal training results at group training prices when you sign up to three 45 minute workouts a week for four weeks.
“After a week or so off, camp restarts for another four weeks. It’s a great way to get fit – fast.”
Where are the classes held?
“Sessions are held at Heathlands Riding Establishment in Wokingham and Lands End Equestrian Centre in Hurst every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
“We also run an off-peak day camp at Deano’s Art and Sounds Barn in Hurst on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.”
How did you start?
“We started the first camp in Hurst in November. The results were so good we were able to start two additional camps in January, and we are looking at starting another in Finchampstead in April.”
Who are your customers?
“Anyone from sports people to couch potatoes. We have people who are in training for triathlons and those who are waiting for new knees. For people that are looking forward to a special occasion – their wedding day, for example, we guarantee that you will have dropped a clothes size in four weeks. Fit Camp appeals to lots of different people because it’s structured in a way that can speed up the metabolism for fast fat loss.
“Some of our clients don’t want to lose fat, and those people simply come to class, work their socks off and reap the rewards of improved stamina and fitness.”
Is FastTrack better than a session at the gym?
“Yes. Each camp has a fantastic camaraderie. The campers support and motivate each other in every session. Each camper gets individual attention from highly trained instructors and get to know every other camper’s name. That doesn’t often happen in a gym. Because the camps are held either outside, or in unheated indoor riding schools or barns, a real team spirit emerges.”
Are your methods old-fashioned?
“We don’t think so. Exercises are structured to have maximum impact on your metabolism. High intensity interval training has been proved highly effective for permanent fat loss. At first glance the exercises themselves might seem a little ‘old school’. They all focus on using your own bodyweight, and gravity provides the workout.
“You feel stronger and fitter, and in turn this can have a positive influence on your outlook and sense of wellbeing.”
What’s the feedback been like?
“All the feedback we’ve had so far has been positive – in fact we had a 100 per cent return rate on our last camp. People are always surprised at how fast each session passes, and at how quickly they improve their fitness and stamina.”
What gives you the most satisfaction in the job?
“The improvement in people as they realise that they can achieve a goal that seemed beyond their reach. Some of our new campers say they can’t do a single press up, but by the end of the four weeks, not only can they do a press up, but several – and on their toes.”
What’s it like being the boss?
“Hard work. The campers seem to think that all we do is run around with a stopwatch shouting encouragement. But we spend a lot of time refining the exercise selections, ensuring balance, scouting for new venues, getting out and about networking or marketing the camps as well as researching the latest and best approaches to fitness and health.”
Are you confident about the future?
“Yes. We believe FastTrack Fit Camp gives a service that is both physically effective and cost effective. We offer a solution to the time poor client who wants fast results.”
