Recession is 'nearly over'

October 27, 2009

A survey of Thames Valley businesses says the country is on the brink of leaving the recession, according to the area’s Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber’s national quarterly economic survey, which has data from 5,500 companies, shows there has been good progress in the manufacturing and service sectors.

Claire Prosser, policy executive for Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, said: “One of the most encouraging aspects of these results is the fact that confidence has strengthened dramatically in both manufacturing and services. In the face of the recent challenges, Thames Valley businesses are showing resilience.

“Although the results are encouraging, the economy is, nevertheless, still frail.”

Indeed we have at least another year of this to go if not longer.

Don't you believe it. The economy may show a small increase towards the Christmas period, but the recession is a long way from over. This is reported to be the worst recession on record. It is little point talking up the economy when unemployment will rise after Christmas as retail companies once again fail. The market is tough.
