Rural businesses urged to cash in on EU grant

June 25, 2009

Rural businesses in Reading are being encouraged to find out how they can get their hands on a £2.5 million pot of EU funds.

The North Wessex Downs Local Action Group (LAG) has secured leader funding, which will be granted to projects that support the rural economy.

Farmers, foresters and community groups across the region can apply for grants from £5,000 to £50,000 for schemes that will help sustainable tourist attractions and renewable energy schemes.

Ian Ritchie, chairman of NWD LAG, said: “We are passionate about supporting the local economy, so have minimised the red tape to ensure applications are processed as swiftly as possible.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for the region and we would urge anyone who is interested in applying to contact us.”

The funding – which is up for grabs until 2013 – is available for businesses based within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
