Back to school for windscreen bosses

Six Whitley-based managers are going back to school to test their basic skills.

Bosses from the Reading branch of National Mobile Windscreens have volunteered to take part in the Skills for Life programme, which aims to raise the level of fundamental skills and abilities in employees nationwide.

The team of managers will leave the boardroom in Cradock Road to attend four six-hour sessions which will assess and train them in basic abilities such as literacy and numeracy.

Homework will be set every day, and a strict final exam will test them on what they have learnt.

They are taking the course as part of the company’s move to encourage its employees to gain the basic qualifications.

Sales and marketing director Martyn Bennett, who is taking part in the challenge, said: “This is just the beginning and the aim is to cascade the training throughout the company.

“We are leading the way because we believe that if we want to encourage our staff that there is always room for improvement and we have to set an example by going through the process for ourselves.”
