Tips on training for big run

By John Stafford

John Stafford, running expert at Bracknell Leisure Centre, home of Bodyworks gym, offers some tips on how to train for Bracknell Half Marathon on Sunday, April 27.

For a full list of John’s tips and his training schedule go to www.getbracknell.co.uk

* Most of the training for a half marathon is, not surprisingly, based on running.

However, it is a good idea to do some training for the upper and middle body areas as well, particularly the core area.

Your core is a link between the lower and upper body and helps to stabilise and co-ordinate movement.

A weak core will result in a lot of wasted energy as  the upper body will move around a lot more than necessary.

There  are lots of different exercises you can do and to find out more about these you could ask at your local gym.

* Another tip for preventing boredom is to vary the routes you use.

Using the same old routes over and over again can sometimes be psychologically demotivating; knowing that there’s a big hill just around the corner, for example.
